BRONSON TWP., Ohio — Family, friends, and the West Salem community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Scott Wilkes, 53, of West Salem, who tragically passed away following a two-vehicle crash in Bronson Township on Friday afternoon. His sudden death has left loved ones devastated as they remember a man whose life was cut far too short.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:28 p.m. at the intersection of New State Road and Dublin Road in Huron County. Preliminary findings indicate that Wilkes was driving a Chevrolet Impala eastbound on Dublin Road when the vehicle failed to yield at a posted stop sign before entering the intersection. His car was then struck by a southbound Chevrolet Silverado HD driven by Kyle Smialowski, 45, of Norwalk.
Emergency responders rushed Scott Wilkes by ambulance to Fisher-Titus Medical Center, where, despite every effort to save him, he later succumbed to his injuries. Smialowski suffered minor injuries in the collision. Authorities confirmed that both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The impact sent Wilkes’ vehicle off the southwest corner of the intersection, while the Silverado came to rest on the southeast side. The Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
