Joseph M. Franklin, a 20-year-old man from Marysville, lost his life in a tragic single-vehicle rollover crash on Saturday evening in Clallam Bay, Washington. The fatal accident occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. on State Route 112 near milepost 18, west of the Clallam River. According to the Washington State Patrol, Franklin was a passenger in a 1994 Ford Ranger that crashed after the driver attempted to pass another vehicle. The young man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver suffered injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators said the Ford Ranger was traveling westbound when the driver moved into the eastbound lane in an attempt to overtake another vehicle. During the maneuver, the pickup truck reportedly lost control, rolled over, and eventually came to rest on the westbound shoulder. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Franklin could not be saved due to the severity of his injuries.
The driver was identified as Fransisco S. Qunneke-Guerrero, a 20-year-old resident of Forks. He was transported to Forks Community Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding his condition.
The Washington State Patrol is continuing its investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not announced whether speed, impairment, or any other contributing factors played a role in the collision. The heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe passing practices and careful driving on two-lane highways, where a single mistake can have devastating consequences for everyone involved.
