The Talbot County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Wilmer Escalante, a 24-year-old resident of Marydel, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating two-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon near Easton, Maryland. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and loved ones grieving the loss of a young man whose future was filled with promise. According to the Maryland State Police, the collision occurred shortly after 3:15 p.m. on Matthewstown Road (Route 328) near Three Bridge Branch Road. Investigators reported that Escalante was traveling westbound when he attempted to pass another vehicle and collided head-on with a car driven by 70-year-old Gloria Dixon of Easton. Emergency personnel, firefighters, paramedics, and a medical helicopter responded quickly to the scene. Escalante was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Dixon was also hospitalized with injuries.
The tragic incident forced authorities to close a portion of Matthewstown Road for several hours while emergency crews assisted victims and investigators documented the scene. The roadway later reopened after officials completed their work.
