The Malheur County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of John Platt, 67, who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle crash on Highway 20 on the morning of July 18. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and all who knew him grieving the loss of a man whose life touched many. As loved ones come together to remember him, they also keep Yolanda Platt, 70, in their thoughts and prayers as she recovers from the serious injuries she sustained in the collision.
According to the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred near the 255 milepost of Highway 20 when John Platt, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, attempted to pass a Peterbilt semi-truck that was in the process of making a left turn. The motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the truck. Despite the rapid response of emergency personnel, John was pronounced dead at the scene. Yolanda Platt was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the truck driver, 24-year-old Victor Pena-Olvera, was not injured.
