Andrew Rhodes, 39, of Marble Hill, was found dead following a violent assault in the 1300 block of North Main Street, and Gabreal McBride, 45, of Cape, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with his death. The shocking incident prompted the activation of the Major Case Squad as investigators worked to determine what happened.
According to authorities, officers responded yesterday morning after receiving a report of a man lying on the ground bleeding. When officers arrived, they found Rhodes deceased at the scene. Investigators determined that Rhodes had been assaulted and struck multiple times in the head with a long pole.
Police allege that after the initial assault, the suspect left the area. Approximately ten minutes later, investigators say the suspect returned and attacked Rhodes a second time. Authorities further allege that after the second assault, the suspect took Rhodes’ pants before fleeing the scene.
Following the investigation, authorities identified Gabreal McBride as the suspect. McBride has been charged with Class A felony first-degree murder, Class A felony first-degree robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action. According to investigators, McBride told authorities he attacked Rhodes because he claimed Rhodes had robbed him in the past. Those allegations have not been proven in court.
McBride is currently being held in custody on a $1,000,000 cash bond pending further court proceedings.
Authorities praised the work of the Major Case Squad for their swift response and investigation. The case remains under investigation, and officials have indicated that additional information may be released as it becomes available. As the legal process moves forward, investigators continue gathering evidence surrounding the circumstances of Andrew Rhodes’ death.
