With heavy hearts, we remember John Platt, 67, of Winters, California, whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal motorcycle crash on July 18, 2026, along Highway 20 in Malheur County, Oregon. According to the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 9:44 a.m. near milepost 255. Investigators reported that a Peterbilt semi-truck was attempting to make a left turn onto Siphon Drive when John, who was riding a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle, attempted to pass. The motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the truck. Despite emergency response efforts, John was pronounced dead at the scene.
John’s passenger, Yolanda Platt, 70, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured. Authorities temporarily closed the highway while the Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
