The heartbreaking loss of Leilani Kana’i Barto, 18, of Dallas, Oregon, has left her family, friends, and community mourning a life that ended far too soon. Leilani was tragically killed on the evening of July 27 following a devastating three-vehicle collision on Highway 58 in Lane County. Her sudden passing has brought immense sorrow to all who knew and loved her, as they remember a young woman whose future was filled with promise and possibility.

According to the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 5:24 p.m. near Rattlesnake Road. Preliminary investigators reported that Leilani was driving a gray Mazda 3 eastbound when she attempted to pass traffic and collided head-on with a westbound Toyota Highlander driven by 74-year-old Arthur Allen Corliss of Eugene. The impact caused the SUV to be struck by a westbound Kenworth semi-truck operated by Anthony Richard Luna of Sutherlin. Tragically, Leilani was pronounced deceased at the scene. Corliss sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, while the truck driver was unharmed.

Authorities believe speed may have been a contributing factor, though the investigation remains ongoing. Highway 58 was closed for approximately four hours as emergency responders worked diligently at the scene.

As family and loved ones grieve this unimaginable loss, many are choosing to remember Leilani not for the tragedy that claimed her life, but for the memories she created, the love she shared, and the joy she brought to those around her. May her memory continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her, and may her family find strength, comfort, and peace during this profoundly difficult time.
