Houston Man Identified as Victim in Fatal Downtown Shreveport Hotel Shooting

SHREVEPORT, La. — Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a shooting outside a downtown Shreveport hotel early Monday morning. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Derrick Coleman of Houston, Texas, according to the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.

The fatal shooting remains under investigation by the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, as detectives continue working to determine what led to the deadly encounter and who may be responsible.

Officers Respond to Hotel Parking Lot Shooting

According to authorities, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:07 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites located in the 200 block of Lake Street following reports of a person being shot in the hotel parking lot.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Coleman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Officers immediately began providing emergency medical assistance while waiting for additional medical personnel to arrive. Members of the Shreveport Fire Department later responded and took over life-saving efforts.

Coleman was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport with injuries described as life-threatening. Medical staff continued efforts to save his life, but despite those efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed that Coleman was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:19 a.m. Monday morning.
