Michelle Vasquez was tragically found dead inside her apartment at the 300 block of Brookdale Drive in Merced, California, in a case that has shocked the local community. Authorities have arrested her daughter, Selena Bass-Vasquez, in connection with the killing. Bass-Vasquez has been booked into the Merced County Jail on a charge of murder as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding Michelle Vasquez’s death.

According to the Merced Police Department, officers responded to the apartment at approximately 1:30 p.m. to conduct a welfare check after concerns were raised about Michelle Vasquez’s well-being. When repeated attempts to make contact went unanswered, officers forced entry into the residence and discovered her deceased inside.

Investigators determined that Michelle Vasquez had suffered multiple lacerations, prompting detectives to immediately launch a homicide investigation. As evidence was gathered and interviews were conducted, authorities identified her daughter, Selena Bass-Vasquez, as the primary suspect in the case.

Police said Bass-Vasquez fled the scene in Michelle Vasquez’s vehicle with her 1-year-old son. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert was quickly issued, and a member of the public later located the vehicle at Rahilly Park before notifying law enforcement.

Responding officers found Bass-Vasquez and the child at the park. The 1-year-old was unharmed, and Child Protective Services was contacted to assist with the child’s care after Bass-Vasquez was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the events leading up to Michelle Vasquez’s death. The Merced Police Department is asking anyone with information about the case to contact investigators.
