HYDEN, Ky. — Penny Ison, 64, of Cornettsville, has been identified as one of the victims of a devastating crash on the Hal Rogers Parkway that left a community grieving and a family facing an unimaginable loss. Ison passed away after suffering critical injuries in a two-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon, leaving behind loved ones who will forever cherish the memories, kindness, and moments she shared throughout her life.
According to Kentucky State Police, troopers responded around 2:54 p.m. to a serious crash near the 37-mile marker of the Hal Rogers Parkway. Investigators said a Nissan Juke driven by 17-year-old Taegan Mosley of Hyden was traveling westbound when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound Ford Expedition.
Mosley was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Expedition and a juvenile passenger were transported by air to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Ison, who was a passenger in the Expedition, was taken by ambulance to Mary Breckinridge Hospital, where medical teams fought to save her life.
Sadly, Ison later succumbed to the injuries she suffered in the crash. Her passing has created a deep sense of sorrow among family, friends, and members of the Cornettsville community who are now left remembering a life that meant so much to those around her.
