A 23-year-old woman, Kyrsten Sovereign, tragically lost her life in a devastating hit-and-run crash on Hunt Highway in the San Tan Valley area of Arizona, while Dave Gilbert Loescher, 58, of Florence, has now been taken into custody in connection with the fatal collision. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday that Loescher was arrested one day after the crash and is expected to face multiple felony charges for allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
The collision occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Friday, July 10, between Arizona Farms Road and Magma Road. In addition to Sovereign’s heartbreaking death, three other people were injured and transported to Valley hospitals. Authorities said two victims were listed in stable condition, while another remained in critical condition following the crash.
Investigators initially searched for what was believed to be a black Ford F-250 or F-350. As the investigation developed, officials corrected the vehicle description, identifying it as a 2024 dark blue Nissan Titan Platinum Edition. The breakthrough came after detectives used license plate reader cameras to determine the truck had remained within the local area. Combined with numerous community tips and extensive media coverage, investigators were able to locate both the suspect and the vehicle safely.
Sheriff Ross Teeple expressed gratitude to everyone who assisted in the investigation while extending heartfelt condolences to the victims’ loved ones. He praised the partnership between residents, the media, and advancing technology that helped detectives swiftly bring the suspect into custody.
As the investigation continues, the community remembers Kyrsten Sovereign with deep sorrow. Her untimely passing has left family and friends mourning an irreplaceable loss while hoping justice will bring some measure of comfort. Authorities say additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
