FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A tragic incident that unfolded in a downtown Nantucket parking lot has resulted in criminal charges against Kathleen M. Featherston, 62, of Fairfield, Connecticut, following the death of Stacey J. Rosen, 62, of Atlantic Beach, New York. Authorities announced Friday that Featherston has been arrested and charged with Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation in connection with the devastating June 29 crash.
According to Nantucket police, officers responded at approximately 1:25 p.m. to the Stop & Shop parking lot after reports of a serious two-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Rosen trapped beneath one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel worked quickly to provide lifesaving aid before she was transported to Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical teams, Rosen’s injuries were catastrophic. She was later airlifted to a mainland hospital for advanced treatment, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries. Her heartbreaking death has left family, friends, and the Atlantic Beach community mourning the loss of a beloved woman whose life ended far too soon.
Investigators determined that Featherston was operating a Rivian SUV at the time of the incident. Following an extensive investigation, authorities towed the vehicle for forensic examination before ultimately obtaining criminal charges.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the collision.
