A tragic late-night crash on Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish claimed the life of 26-year-old Randall P. Belaire of St. Martinville, while 27-year-old Brianna L. Hutson of Magnolia, Mississippi, was arrested and now faces multiple criminal charges, including vehicular homicide. The devastating collision occurred shortly before 11:00 p.m. on July 17 and remains under active investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
According to investigators, Hutson was driving a 2026 Kia Carnival southbound on Interstate 55 near Louisiana Highway 442 when the vehicle veered off the roadway and crashed into the rear of a disabled 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was parked on the right shoulder with its hazard lights activated. Authorities are continuing to determine what caused the Kia to leave the travel lane.
The impact left Randall P. Belaire, who was riding as an unrestrained rear-seat passenger in the Kia, with catastrophic injuries. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His sudden passing has left loved ones grieving the loss of a young life cut tragically short.
The driver of the disabled Chevrolet and three passengers, all of whom were wearing seat belts, suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Hutson and a front-seat passenger in the Kia, who were also restrained, sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment.
During the investigation, troopers reported that Hutson displayed signs of impairment. After being medically cleared, she was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Correctional Facility on charges of Vehicular Homicide, five counts of Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Careless Operation, and Open Container. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
