Miles City Man Dies After Early Morning House Fire on North Montana Avenue

MILES CITY, Mont. — A Miles City man has died after suffering critical injuries in an early morning house fire that broke out Monday on North Montana Avenue, according to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities identified the victim as David Scott Kepford, the homeowner who was found on the property after firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after midnight.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the residence on North Montana Avenue following reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered an active fire and immediately began efforts to contain the flames while searching the property for anyone who may have been inside or nearby.

According to Custer County Sheriff Brandon Kelm, firefighters located Kepford on the property during the emergency response. He was suffering from serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Despite the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, Kepford later died from his injuries, Sheriff Kelm confirmed.

Fire Brought Under Control

Firefighters worked quickly to prevent the blaze from spreading and were able to extinguish the fire in approximately one hour. Their efforts helped bring the incident under control, allowing investigators to begin examining the scene once it was deemed safe.
