The New Castle community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of William Collins, a 63-year-old resident whose life was tragically cut short following a pedestrian crash on Christiana Road. William was critically injured after being struck while crossing the street in his wheelchair and, despite the efforts of medical personnel, passed away from his injuries on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. His passing has left family members, friends, neighbors, and all who knew him grieving the loss of a cherished life taken far too soon.

According to the Delaware State Police, the collision occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Monday, July 20, near the intersection of Christiana Road and Pleasant Place in New Castle. Investigators said a Nissan Titan was traveling westbound with a green traffic signal when William, who was using a wheelchair, entered the marked crosswalk while crossing from Pleasant Place toward Scottie Lane. The vehicle struck him, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to those injuries. The driver, a 39-year-old man from Newark, was not injured.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has surveillance or dashcam footage to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.

As loved ones struggle to cope with this devastating loss, many are remembering William Collins for the life he lived rather than the tragedy that ended it. May his memory continue to bring comfort to those who knew and loved him, and may they find strength in one another during this incredibly difficult time.

Our deepest thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Collins family, friends, and everyone mourning the loss of William Collins. May he rest in eternal peace.
