High Point Police Investigating Homicide After 70-Year-Old Man Found Dead

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Authorities are investigating the death of a 70-year-old man after he was found with traumatic injuries in the backyard of a residence on Carter Street on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the High Point Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Carter Street at approximately 5:05 p.m. following a report of unknown trouble. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered 70-year-old William R. Dockery unconscious in the backyard of the property.

Emergency responders assessed the victim, but Mr. Dockery was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he had suffered traumatic injuries, prompting detectives to classify the case as a homicide.

Investigators immediately secured the area and began collecting evidence while speaking with potential witnesses in an effort to determine exactly what led to the deadly incident.
