The community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Sandra Factor Pano, a 24-year-old Omaha woman whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating train-vehicle crash near Arion, Iowa. Sandra died from the injuries she sustained after the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee she was riding in was struck by a Union Pacific train at the Grace Street railroad crossing shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday, July 19. The crash also left Christian Alverado Dimayuga, Jennifer Factor Pano, Jose Aquino Factor, and a five-year-old child seriously injured, forever changing the lives of everyone involved.
Sandra’s passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her caring heart, gentle spirit, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. Though her life ended far too soon, the memories she created and the kindness she showed will continue to inspire those who loved her.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 12:59 a.m. on July 19 when the Jeep Grand Cherokee was struck by a Union Pacific train at the Grace Street railroad crossing. The impact forced the vehicle into a ditch between the railroad tracks and Highway 30. Emergency responders from several agencies quickly arrived at the scene and transported all five occupants for medical treatment. Two injured adults were later airlifted to Nebraska Medical Center, while the young child was taken by ambulance to Children’s Hospital in Omaha.
As investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision, family, friends, and the community are left grieving a heartbreaking loss.
