A tragic shooting in Corinth has left 72-year-old Gary Mitchell dead and his relative, Jacob Mitchell, facing serious criminal charges after police discovered the victim inside a Corinth home Friday night. Authorities said Jacob Mitchell has been charged with second-degree murder and shooting into a dwelling following the deadly incident that occurred at a residence on Oak Lane.

 

According to the Corinth Police Department, officers responded around 7:15 p.m. to a home in the 2100 block of Oak Lane after receiving a 911 call reporting a medical emergency. When officers arrived, they found Gary Mitchell deceased in a hallway inside the residence.

 

Investigators said first responders noticed blood on the victim and discovered bullet holes inside the home, indicating that the situation involved a violent act. During the investigation, police took Jacob Mitchell, who was present at the residence, into custody.

 

Jacob Mitchell was later formally charged with second-degree murder and shooting into a dwelling. He was expected to appear in court for an initial hearing as early as Monday as the legal process moves forward.
