A tragic head-on collision along Illinois Route 47 in unincorporated Morris claimed the life of Adam Gnutek, 35, of Chicago, after a two-vehicle crash left one driver dead and several others seriously injured Saturday afternoon. The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office reported that the fatal crash occurred around 3:09 p.m. in the 3000 block of north Route 47, prompting emergency crews to rush to the scene.
According to authorities, Gnutek was driving a gray 2020 Honda HR-V when his vehicle was struck by a silver 2011 Buick Enclave driven by Joshua Ghantous, 27, of Bloomington. Investigators said the Buick was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 47 when it crossed the centerline and entered the southbound lane, resulting in a devastating head-on collision with the Honda.
The force of the impact caused Gnutek’s vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its roof in a ditch on the west side of the roadway. Members of the Morris Fire Department worked to remove Gnutek from the wreckage. He suffered critical injuries and was transported to Morris Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Ghantous and his 25-year-old female passenger, also from Bloomington, were seriously injured in the crash. Both were taken to Morris Hospital before being flown by helicopter to Loyola University Medical Center for further treatment.
