A devastating head-on collision in Decatur County, Indiana, claimed the lives of Jason Paul Hall, 41, of Marion, and Douglas Gordon Ott, 56, of Shelbyville, during the early morning hours of Friday, July 24, 2026. The tragic crash occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. in the 5000 block of US 421 North, leaving another victim, James Alexander Ott, 18, with severe injuries. The heartbreaking incident has left two families grieving while the community awaits the results of the ongoing investigation.
According to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, emergency dispatchers received reports of a two-vehicle head-on crash and quickly sent deputies and first responders to the scene. Investigators determined that a northbound vehicle driven by Jason Paul Hall crossed the center line into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with a vehicle operated by Douglas Gordon Ott. The tremendous impact caused both vehicles to come to rest in the southbound lane, with emergency crews working tirelessly to free the trapped occupants.
Jason Paul Hall was pronounced dead at the scene, while Douglas Gordon Ott also succumbed to his injuries at the crash site. James Alexander Ott, the passenger in Douglas Ott’s vehicle, suffered critical injuries and was airlifted by medical helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital for emergency treatment.
US 421 remained closed for nearly four hours as emergency personnel conducted rescue efforts, investigated the collision, and cleared the roadway. Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active.
The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department expressed gratitude to the numerous emergency agencies, firefighters, EMS crews, medical helicopter teams, the Indiana State Police, and the Decatur County Coroner’s Office for their coordinated response during this tragic incident.
