The community of Temperance, Michigan, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Kevin Wayne Chesney, 61, who died after being struck in a tragic hit-and-run crash on S. Telegraph Road in Bedford Township. Kevin’s life was taken in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 23, 2026, leaving family, friends, and loved ones searching for answers while remembering the man he was.
According to investigators, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded around 1:28 a.m. after a deceased person was discovered on the side of S. Telegraph Road, north of Crabb Road. Following an autopsy conducted by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office in Toledo, authorities determined that Chesney died from blunt force trauma to the head, believed to have been caused by the impact of a vehicle.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Chesney was walking northbound along the east side of S. Telegraph Road when he was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop and remain at the scene. Investigators believe the vehicle involved may have been a pickup truck or commercial vehicle with possible passenger-side damage, including damage to a mirror or an object extending from the vehicle.
As the investigation continues, authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or traveled through the area around the time of the incident to come forward with information.
While investigators work to find answers, those who knew Kevin are left holding onto memories of his life and the impact he had on others. His passing is a painful reminder of the devastating consequences of leaving a crash scene and the importance of accountability.
