84-Year-Old Immokalee Man Found Dead in Canal Behind Marathon Home; Investigation Ongoing
MARATHON, Fla. — Authorities in the Florida Keys are investigating the death of an 84-year-old man who was found dead in a canal behind a residence in Marathon on Monday morning.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Jackie Williams, 84, of Immokalee.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Sombrero Beach Road at approximately 8:55 a.m. after receiving a report involving an individual in the canal behind the property.
When deputies arrived, they discovered Williams deceased in the water. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but he was pronounced dead.
Investigation Underway
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Williams’ death. While detectives continue to gather information, officials said that there are currently no indications that foul play was involved.
