Before the tragedy became the focus of a homicide investigation, Sara Jane Duffey, 43, and Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, 48, were found dead inside their Owasso, Oklahoma, home late Thursday night in what police believe was a domestic violence-related murder-suicide. Authorities say Sara was the victim, while Jeremiah has been identified as the suspected shooter. The incident has left the Owasso community shocked as investigators work to determine the events that led to the fatal shooting.
According to the Owasso Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after 11:00 p.m. to a residence near 126th Street North and 129th East Avenue after a 911 caller reported hearing multiple gunshots. When officers arrived and entered the home, they discovered two adults suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police later identified the victim as Sara Jane Duffey and the suspect as Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey. Based on the preliminary evidence gathered at the residence, investigators believe the deaths stemmed from a domestic violence incident and are treating the case as an apparent murder-suicide.
