LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Jordan Tyler Gray, 30, of London, Kentucky, is being remembered after a heartbreaking drowning incident at Laurel Lake Thursday evening. Gray lost his life while attempting to swim across a cove near Cox Road in Laurel County, leaving family, friends, and the community mourning the sudden loss of a loved one.
According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, emergency crews were called to Laurel Lake following reports that a swimmer was struggling in the water. Witnesses told investigators that Gray had entered the cove and attempted to swim across, but during the attempt, he began experiencing difficulty before disappearing beneath the surface. Despite efforts to locate him, he was not seen resurfacing.
Fire crews worked tirelessly at the scene, using an underwater drone to assist in the search. Gray’s body was located and recovered from the water at approximately 7:20 p.m. Thursday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic drowning. Officials have not yet released details regarding possible contributing factors, including water conditions or whether Gray was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
Laurel Lake, a popular recreational destination in southeastern Kentucky, attracts many visitors each year for swimming, boating, and outdoor activities. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety precautions during recreational activities.
