A heartbreaking crash on Interstate 240 in Memphis, Tennessee, has claimed the lives of Linzie Maxwell and Robert French, leaving family members, friends, and the community mourning an unimaginable loss. The fatal collision occurred Saturday morning on eastbound I-240 just east of the Lamar Avenue overpass. Authorities say Maxwell was driving a black Chevy Impala when it slammed into the rear of a silver Kia operated by French. Both men suffered fatal injuries in the devastating impact, turning an ordinary morning into a scene of overwhelming tragedy.
According to investigators, Robert French had reportedly pulled his vehicle onto the interstate shoulder to check what he believed was a flat tire. Moments later, Maxwell’s vehicle struck the Kia from behind with tremendous force. The collision threw French from his vehicle, while Maxwell’s Impala continued forward and crashed into a third vehicle, a black Nissan Maxima. Fortunately, the occupants of the Nissan escaped with only minor injuries despite their vehicle being forced down an embankment.
By the following day, the damaged vehicles had been removed from the scene, but scattered clothing, shattered glass, and twisted debris remained as painful reminders of the lives lost. The tragic aftermath serves as a sobering illustration of how quickly lives can change on busy highways.
Just hours after the deadly wreck, another collision involving a Memphis Police Department cruiser occurred elsewhere in the city. Police said a Nissan Altima turned in front of the patrol vehicle, sending three people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the officer escaped unharmed.
