MILTON, Fla. — Jeffery Royce Day Jr., 41, was found dead in the Blackwater River after an attempt to flee Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were trying to serve multiple felony warrants. According to authorities, Day ran from deputies on Tuesday in the 6800 block of Pat Brown Road before entering the river and swimming away. He eventually disappeared from sight, prompting an extensive search that resumed the following day. Sadly, search teams later recovered his body, bringing the incident to a heartbreaking conclusion.
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office said Day was wanted on felony warrants that included violation of probation for willfully fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, and grand theft involving property valued between $750 and $5,000. Deputies, assisted by the SRCSO K-9 Unit, Skyline Fire Rescue, Milton Fire Department, the SRCSO Marine Unit, and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Marine Dive Unit, conducted an extensive search before locating him.
While the investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the warrants and pursuit, the outcome remains a tragedy.
