According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 5:17 a.m. when a northbound passenger vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound garbage truck near Blue Creek, about five miles northwest of Chewelah. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to roll over before coming to rest off the roadway. Sadly, Jamey Dotts and Karla Taylor were pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the severity of the crash, investigators were unable to determine who was driving the passenger vehicle. The driver of the garbage truck, who was wearing a seat belt, escaped without injury.
