The Lancaster community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Miranda M. Maughmer, 25, and her precious 3-year-old child, whose lives were tragically taken in a devastating crash on July 9, 2026, in Berne Township, Fairfield County, Ohio. Their sudden passing has left family, friends, and loved ones searching for comfort as they remember two beautiful souls who brought love, joy, and countless memories to those around them.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the tragic collision happened at approximately 7:33 p.m. on Bremen Road SE near Lake Road SE. Investigators reported that Miranda was traveling east in a 2023 Kia Forte when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a westbound GMC Acadia. Miranda was transported by Lancaster EMS to Fairfield Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Tragically, her young child, who was safely secured in a child safety seat, also suffered fatal injuries and passed away at Fairfield Medical Center. An 8-month-old child who was also inside the vehicle survived with minor injuries.
Today, the Lancaster community remembers Miranda as a loving mother whose life was filled with care, devotion, and love for her children. Her 3-year-old child will be remembered for the innocence, happiness, and precious moments that brought light to everyone who knew them.
As investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash, a community stands together in sorrow and support for the family left behind. The loss of a mother and her young child has created a pain that words cannot fully describe.
