The Lonedell community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 28-year-old Gage Cowin, whose life was tragically taken during an early morning shooting, while 29-year-old Levi E. Taylor of Sullivan has been identified as the suspect facing charges in connection with his death. As the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation, family members, friends, and loved ones are remembering Gage for the life he lived and the memories he leaves behind.
The fatal incident happened during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 9, 2026, at a residence in the 1000 block of Birch Drive in Lonedell. At approximately 1:16 a.m., Franklin County Communications received a 911 call reporting that a person had been shot and that the suspected shooter had left the scene. The caller reported that Gage appeared to be deceased.
Responding deputies discovered an overturned gray 2012 Ford Focus a short distance from the residence. During their investigation, deputies recovered a revolver-style handgun from inside the vehicle. A male later identified as the suspected shooter was found walking back toward the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.
At the home, deputies found Gage suffering from a gunshot wound. They immediately began lifesaving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived, but despite every effort, Gage was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators stated that an argument occurred between the two roommates before the shooting. Taylor faces charges including second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and DWI.
As the investigation moves forward, those who knew Gage are left with a deep sense of loss. His life, his memories, and the moments he shared with others will never be forgotten.
