Buncombe County Authorities Identify Woman Found Deceased Along Old Mars Hill Highway

Buncombe County, N.C. — July 12, 2026: Authorities have identified the woman found deceased along Old Mars Hill Highway as 45-year-old Teresa Annette Davis, as the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office continues its active investigation into her death.

According to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), deputies are investigating the circumstances surrounding Davis’s death after her body was discovered near the Buncombe–Madison County line, north of Weaverville.

A passerby discovered Davis’s body shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, near 795 Old Mars Hill Highway. Emergency responders and law enforcement officials were called to the area, where investigators began working to determine the circumstances that led to her death.

The sheriff’s office said the case remains an active death investigation. Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy, which will provide additional information as investigators continue working to understand what happened.

Investigators have indicated that they believe other individuals may have been present during the events leading up to Davis’s death. Officials have not released additional details about possible persons of interest or the circumstances surrounding the incident as the investigation remains ongoing.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information that may assist investigators to come forward. Residents, motorists, or anyone who may have seen something unusual in the area around the time Davis was found are encouraged to contact authorities.
