Joshua K. Poissonnier Dies Following Motorcycle Crash at Norridgewock Intersection

The Norridgewock community is mourning the tragic loss of Joshua K. Poissonnier, 37, who died Monday following a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Bridge Street and River Road in Somerset County, Maine.

According to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were dispatched to the crash scene at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday after receiving reports of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV.

Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell said investigators determined that Joshua was traveling north on a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle along Bridge Street, also designated as Route 8 and U.S. Route 201-A, when the collision occurred.

Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of a 2012 Jeep Liberty, who was traveling west on River Road, attempted to turn onto Bridge Street but allegedly failed to yield the right of way. The Jeep entered the intersection and collided with Joshua’s motorcycle.

The impact of the collision threw Joshua from the motorcycle. Authorities reported that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders transported Joshua by ambulance to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, where medical personnel worked to save his life. Despite their efforts, he later succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Jeep, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained what authorities described as minor injuries and was also transported to the Skowhegan hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. According to investigators, driver inattention and failure to yield are believed to have contributed to the crash. Officials also stated that alcohol or drugs are not believed to have been factors in the incident.

Authorities noted that criminal charges could be considered following a review of the completed investigation by prosecutors. No charges have been announced at this time.

Deputy Ashley Smith is serving as the lead investigator in the case. Members of the Sheriff’s Office’s crash reconstruction team spent several hours documenting the scene and reconstructing the collision, prompting a temporary closure of the roadway while the investigation was underway.

The investigation has been supported by the Norridgewock Fire Department and emergency medical personnel from Redington-Fairview General Hospital, who assisted at the scene.

Joshua’s sudden passing has left his family, friends, and members of the Norridgewock community grieving the loss of a loved one whose life ended far too soon. As loved ones begin the difficult process of mourning, many are remembering him with heartfelt condolences and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the investigation remains active, and additional information may be released as the case progresses and prosecutors complete their review.
