Justice Sought for Gage Cowin: Lonedell Community Mourns 28-Year-Old Victim as Levi E. Taylor Faces Murder Charges After Fatal Shooting.

The Lonedell community is grieving the tragic loss of 28-year-old Gage Cowin, who was killed during a fatal shooting on Birch Drive, while 29-year-old Levi E. Taylor of Sullivan has been identified as the suspect facing serious criminal charges in connection with his death. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the heartbreaking incident that unfolded during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 9, 2026, as loved ones remember Cowin and seek justice for a life taken too soon.

According to authorities, Franklin County Communications received a 911 call at approximately 1:16 a.m. reporting that an individual had been shot at a residence in the 1000 block of Birch Drive in Lonedell and that the suspected shooter had fled the scene. The caller reported that Cowin appeared to be deceased.

Responding deputies later located a gray 2012 Ford Focus overturned a short distance from the residence. During their investigation of the crash scene, deputies recovered a revolver-style handgun from inside the vehicle. An adult male was then located walking back toward the overturned vehicle and was identified as the suspected shooter. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

At the residence, deputies found Cowin suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by deputies and emergency personnel, Cowin was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators determined that an argument had occurred between the two roommates before the shooting. Taylor faces no-bond warrants for second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and DWI.
