Timothy Wedlock, a 58-year-old Australian tourist, was killed in a tragic downtown Nashville pedestrian crash involving 87-year-old Thomas Cahill of Bowling Green, Kentucky, who police identified as the driver accused of running a red light and striking four pedestrians at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Broadway. The devastating collision left Wedlock dead and three others injured, as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Cahill was driving a Ford Fusion when he entered the intersection and hit pedestrians who were crossing the street with the right of way. Police said Wedlock suffered serious injuries and later died after arriving at the hospital.
The crash also injured three other victims. A man from Jacksonville, Florida, was critically injured and underwent surgery. A woman from Knoxville was hospitalized with serious but non-critical injuries, while another 58-year-old woman from Parsons, Tennessee, remained in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Police said Cahill was traveling with his 90-year-old wife and her caregiver when the crash occurred. Both Cahill and his wife were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Investigators said Cahill did not show signs of impairment, and officials are continuing to examine what led to the collision.
Authorities said surveillance footage from downtown cameras captured the moment the Ford Fusion struck the pedestrians in the crosswalk. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to understand the events that caused the deadly crash.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell called the incident an “incredibly tragic event,” as the city mourns the loss of Timothy Wedlock. Friends, family, and loved ones are left remembering a life that was suddenly taken in a heartbreaking accident.
