A tragic pedestrian crash in downtown Nashville has claimed the life of Timothy Wedlock, 58, of Australia, while leaving three other pedestrians seriously injured, according to newly released information from Metro Nashville Police. The devastating incident occurred Saturday afternoon at the busy intersection of Broadway and Fourth Avenue, a popular area frequented by both locals and tourists.
Investigators said Thomas Cahill, 87, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion southbound on Fourth Avenue when he allegedly ran a red light and struck pedestrians who were legally crossing the street. Wedlock suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead following the collision, turning what should have been a routine visit into an unimaginable tragedy.
Three additional pedestrians were injured in the crash. A 44-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A 58-year-old woman from Parsons, Tennessee, is listed in critical but stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman from Knoxville sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Cahill and his 90-year-old wife, who was riding in the vehicle, were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The couple’s caregiver, seated in the back seat, was not injured and told investigators she looked up after hearing the impact.
Police stated that Cahill showed no signs of impairment. Investigators are still determining whether a medical emergency or another factor caused him to run the red light. The Traffic Division continues to examine all evidence, and authorities have not ruled out possible criminal charges. As the investigation moves forward, family, friends, and the Nashville community continue to mourn the heartbreaking loss of Timothy Wedlock while hoping for the recovery of those injured.
