A tragic crash on Highway 42 in Jefferson Davis County has claimed the life of Hollis Douglas, 50, of Sumrall, leaving his family, friends, and the local community mourning a heartbreaking loss. The fatal collision occurred Thursday evening, serving as another painful reminder of how quickly lives can be changed on Mississippi’s roadways.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), troopers responded to the crash at approximately 7:47 p.m. Their preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Toyota Camry was traveling west on Highway 42 when it collided with an eastbound 2018 Ford F-250 driven by Douglas. The impact was severe, and despite emergency response efforts, Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Davis County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities stated that the driver of the Toyota Camry, identified as Dantirrean Smith, 42, of Brookhaven, left the crash scene immediately after the collision. Investigators later confirmed that Smith voluntarily turned himself in to the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Office. Officials have not yet released additional details regarding possible charges as the investigation remains ongoing.
A passenger traveling in Douglas’ Ford F-250 suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Their current condition has not been publicly updated.
