Ryan A. Lyke, 37, of Canastota, was tragically killed after a devastating collision between his motorcycle and a pickup truck on State Route 13 in the Town of Vienna, according to New York State Police.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:05 p.m. on July 22. Preliminary findings indicate that Lyke was traveling north on a 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a southbound 2020 Nissan Frontier, driven by Leo G. Seaton, 90, of Camden, attempted to make a left turn across the highway. The pickup truck entered the motorcycle’s path, resulting in a violent collision.
Emergency responders rushed Ryan to Rome Health for treatment, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
New York State Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and conducted a detailed examination of the crash. Investigators also had a drug recognition expert evaluate the pickup truck driver, who found no evidence of impairment.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation as authorities continue gathering evidence to determine exactly what led to the fatal crash.
Ryan’s sudden death has left his family, friends, and community grieving the loss of a life cut tragically short. As the investigation moves forward, many are remembering him for the life he lived and the memories he leaves behind while hoping for answers surrounding the heartbreaking incident.
