A wave of heartbreak has swept across Peoria following the tragic death of 17-year-old Isis Horn, a young woman whose life was cut tragically short in a devastating overnight crash that has left an entire community searching for answers. Identified by the Peoria County Coroner, Isis was just 17 years old—a teenager with dreams, loved ones, and a future that ended far too soon in an unimaginable tragedy.
According to investigators, the heartbreaking incident began shortly after 1:20 a.m. when Peoria police attempted to stop a vehicle near Jefferson and Abington streets. Instead of pulling over, the driver allegedly sped away at a dangerously high rate of speed. Just moments later, officers arrived at the scene of a violent two-vehicle collision near Maryland Street and McClure Avenue. Authorities confirmed that the fleeing vehicle was involved in the devastating crash.
Isis was riding as a passenger in the other vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old man who survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Despite the tireless efforts of first responders and medical personnel, Isis suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:05 a.m. Thursday morning. Her autopsy is scheduled for Friday as investigators continue working to uncover every detail surrounding the crash.
Police say one occupant of the suspect vehicle was taken into custody with minor injuries, while the driver fled the scene and remains at large.
As loved ones struggle to cope with this unimaginable loss, the community is remembering Isis Horn not for the tragedy that claimed her life, but for the beautiful life she lived and the memories she leaves behind. May her name never be forgotten, and may her family find strength, comfort, and justice in the difficult days ahead.
