The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the heartbreaking death of Lorne Marshall, the 75-year-old Bangor Township man who succumbed to the critical injuries he sustained in a tragic traffic crash in Arlington Township on July 16, 2026. His passing has left his family, friends, and the Bangor Township community mourning the loss of a beloved man whose life touched many.
According to investigators, the collision occurred at approximately 11:48 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 681 and 48th Avenue. Lorne Marshall was driving his 2004 Toyota Tundra eastbound on 48th Avenue when his vehicle entered the intersection and was struck by a northbound Freightliner semi-truck hauling an empty 40,000-pound tank. Emergency crews from Van Buren EMS and the Bangor Fire Department worked tirelessly to extricate him from the wreckage before he was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the dedicated efforts of first responders and medical staff, he later passed away from his injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 48-year-old man from the Holland, Michigan area, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for evaluation. Authorities have stated that the crash remains under investigation.
