Her sudden passing has left countless loved ones mourning a bright young woman whose life was cut heartbreakingly short.
According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 2:27 a.m. near the 28-mile marker on I-295. Preliminary findings indicate that a Hyundai driven by Vargo was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it collided head-on with a tractor-trailer. The tremendous impact forced the truck across the median and into the southbound lanes before it came to a stop.
Authorities said Skylar became trapped inside her vehicle, which quickly caught fire following the collision. Emergency crews responded swiftly and worked tirelessly to rescue her from the wreckage before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Despite every lifesaving effort made by medical personnel, she sadly succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, Motor Carrier Safety Team, and hazardous materials crews responded to the scene as diesel fuel and oil leaked from the tractor-trailer, leading to hours of roadway closures while investigators documented the crash and crews cleaned the area.
The investigation into why the Hyundai was traveling the wrong way remains ongoing.
