Tragic Burma Road Crash Claims Life of 18-Year-Old Alexandria Womer, Several Others Seriously Injured
BARNESVILLE — A devastating two-vehicle crash involving a passenger sedan and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of an 18-year-old Pottsville woman and left several other young occupants seriously injured on Wednesday night in Blythe Township.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the fatal collision occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Burma Road, just north of Firetower Road. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after reports of a serious crash involving a Chevrolet Malibu and an oncoming tractor-trailer.
Investigators said the Chevrolet Malibu was being driven by Martin Malis, 19, of Pottsville, when the vehicle entered a left-hand curve. Preliminary findings indicate that the sedan lost control, crossed the center line, and entered the opposite lane of travel, where it collided head-on with an approaching tractor-trailer. The impact was severe, causing catastrophic damage to the passenger vehicle.
Among the five occupants inside the Malibu was Alexandria Womer, 18, of Pottsville, who was seated in the front passenger seat. Tragically, she suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
The crash also left several other occupants with significant injuries. The driver, Martin Malis, along with a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, all from Pottsville, sustained serious injuries and were transported for emergency medical treatment. A 14-year-old boy from Port Carbon suffered minor injuries.
Officials have not released additional information regarding the condition of those injured or the medical facilities where they were taken.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was also involved in the collision, though Pennsylvania State Police did not release the driver’s identity or provide details regarding any injuries.
The sudden loss of Alexandria Womer has deeply saddened the Pottsville community, where friends, classmates, and loved ones are mourning the death of a young woman whose life ended far too soon. As word of the tragedy spread, many expressed their condolences and prayers for her family, as well as hopes for the recovery of the other young people injured in the crash.
