The heartbreaking loss of Viomara Laura Ortiz, a 2-year-old girl from south Nashville, has left her family, friends, and the community mourning a life that ended far too soon. Viomara tragically died following a drowning incident in a backyard swimming pool on Monday, July 27, a devastating accident that serves as a painful reminder of how quickly tragedy can unfold. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Viomara wandered out of a room while her father was changing clothes in preparation for swimming. After realizing she was missing, he immediately began searching for her. Authorities said several minutes later he discovered her submerged in the backyard pool, where investigators believe she had been for approximately eight minutes.

 

In a desperate effort to save his daughter, Viomara’s father performed CPR before rushing her to the nearest fire station for emergency assistance. She was then transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, where medical teams fought tirelessly to save her life. Despite every effort, she sadly succumbed to her injuries.
